Journal Comics
I Don’t Know What I’m Doing is a collection of journal comics documenting my adventures and follies as an oblivious comic book nerd. Many comics are about the experiences of being an art student and a little bit crazy. The purpose of the comic is to get people to laugh and smile. It’s about how life is an adventure, being annoyed, and finding the humor in mistakes. I balance having both an optimistic and a pessimistic attitude, or as I like to call it, happily bitter.
It is a work in progress to have the series be published. The first volume showcases the daily growth from making the comics for the first few months. Also, as a bonus, a behind the scenes look at some of my favorite sketches.
The comics can also be read online through instagram, facebook, tapastic, and webtoon. I love these digital platforms because they allow me to experiment with formatting, motion, and audio. Additionally, these are free platforms, making my work be available to a wide audience. I really do wish that these comics can impact someone the way that comics have for me. The simple pleasure of easy access to funny little comics that can brighten a day.
Character Profiles
Bethany
That's me! Firstborn and a broke comics art student! I'm always confused. I like to draw comics that portray doofiness, joy, and the love I have for my family.
Mother
She knows everything. Between her and father, she's the funny one. She fills the house with furniture she likes to paint. We work together on a furniture bussiness.
Father
He’s more of a doter and he tries his best. His humor is usually pretty lame. We all love him anyway. His hobby is geocaching and he likes telling stories.
Mish
Mish is the second born. He’s a major doof and an Eagle Scout currently in college for programing and video game engineering. I nicknamed him “Mumpy” or “da Mumps.”
Rachel
Rachel is the thirdborn and currently in Florida at Johnson and Wales for pastry baking. She's really good, gets all A's. But she really misses her puppies.
Noah
Youngest and still in high school. He's interested in engineering. You'll usually find him on his computer. Isabella and Snickers like to hang around with him at those times.
Peanut
My dog who was born in Memphis from the same litter as Isabella. Like a lot of sisters, they want each other dead. She’s also know as "The Peeing Nut," a well deserved name.
Isabella
The Queen, Rachel's dog that she can't have because she's living in a dorm. Often grumpy but when she's excited will squeal like she's in pain and squeeze in between your legs.
Snickerdoodle
Mother's dog but she likes Rachel. A troublesome rat terrior who goes by many names: Snickers, Cookie, and Ms-Pees-A-Lot-In-The-Dining-Room.
